Patti Ray

I hold a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master's in Biomedical Visualization (Medical Art) from the University of Illinois-Chicago. As an older adult I returned to figure drawing classes. While I have always gravitated towards the human figure drawn representationally, the incorporation of collage as both an aesthetic and narrative component is my current area of artistic exploration. I like the effects that layers of collaged elements, like peeling wallpaper in an old house, create to enhance a portrait by suggesting personal history, the passage of time, and transformation. My work merges the figure and the ground.
