Art in all its forms doesn't just make people feel good – it makes people feel alive! It can surprise, inspire, excite, and ignite your entire outlook for a moment, a day, or an entire lifetime. It opens eyes, minds, and hearts like no doctor or medicine can. The artist has the ability to transform the mundane into the sublime with canvas, camera, paint, paper, wood, metal, clay, and even now, computers.
When artists touch something deep within us, our lives suddenly have more meaning, joy, and possibilities. Francis Howe Hardy understood that miraculous linkage and wanted as many local artists to have the opportunity to touch as many people possible with their talent.
The Hardy Gallery is the premier non-profit organization in Door County with the sole purpose of promoting and encouraging local artists, inspiring local youth in creative ways, supporting emerging artists and celebrating the Peninsula’s veteran artists.

Nov. 16 – Dec. 14
The online auction debuts on the web Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 and ends at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011.
All proceeds will assist the Hardy Gallery, a 501©3 non-profit public charity, in working to achieve its mission of supporting a growing Door County art community, fostering its growth and furthering the understanding and appreciation of the visual arts and artists of the Door County Peninsula.
The Hardy’s first book, The Community Mosaic Project: Complete Artworks 2008-2009, is now available for purchase! This book collects the thoughts and writings behind works of art from the first two years of our popular community outreach event, the Community Mosaic Project.
The book is a unique memento of the Peninsula’s vibrant visual arts scene as well as the greater Door County community. It includes testimonials from participants, a forward written by esteemed Door County artist Charles L. Peterson, a behind-the-scenes look at the making and implementation of the project, and images of over 650 works of art.
The Hardy Gallery's Door & Kewaunee County Arts Map is back for 2011 and will be available throughout the peninsula by early June 2011.
The Arts Map had initially been produced by the Hardy Gallery in the mid-1980s and was later produced as an independent project before being taken over by PAHA (Peninsula Arts and Humanties Alliance) in the early 2000s. PAHA printed the map until 2007 before the organization decided to refocus its direction. The Hardy Gallery had also been producing its own publication, "The Visual Arts Guide of Door County." but had ceased production that same year.

Started in 2008, the annual Community Mosaic Project is an outreach effort created by the Hardy Gallery as a means to connect the community and the arts, thus furthering the growth and awareness of the visual arts in Door County. The project has quickly become one of the Hardy Gallery's signature exhibits.
The Mosaic Project consists of 350 individual 6-inch by 6-inch canvases that are created by both professional and novice artists of all ages and abilities. These canvases are then constructed into a colorful mosaic that hangs concurrently with the annual Collection Invitational Exhibit. During the exhibit, the canvases are auctioned off in a “blind buy” for $25/each.
“These canvases are a cross-section of our community,” says Elizabeth Meissner-Gigstead, Executive Director of the Hardy. “The fun in purchasing one of the canvases is that because of the blind buy, you get to be surprised with the artwork that you receive. You could walk away with a small canvas from one of Door County’s finest artists – or a budding artist that is just beginning to create.”
