The mission of the Francis Hardy Center for the Arts is to promote awareness, understanding and appreciation of the arts. Art Studio Tour

Discover Door County's working artisans with an evening narrated trolley tour to artist studios, many of which are nestled off the county's main traveled roads. The Door Peninsula's distinctive arts community boasts over 350 working artists and a diverse selection of galleries.

 

The Art Studio Tour combines a unique view of artistic creations with two special features. Guests will enjoy delectable hors d'oeuvres and desserts at selected studios and a sampling of local cuisine with a relaxing dinner at one of Northern Door County's most unique restaurants.

 

Advance reservations are required. The $75 per person (plus tax) price Includes trolley transportation provided by Door County Trolley, hors d'oeuvres, a cocktail, dinner, dessert and gratuity. Week-long event displaying all artwork submitted for the 45th Annual Juried exhibition prior to jury selection.  The public is invited to vote their favorite piece of art for the "People's Choice Awards".

 
 

46th Annual Juried Exhibit

June 7 - July 13, 2008
Jurors select a wide array of art submitted by regional artists. This exhibit offers exposure to artists of all levels and experiencec. It gives emerging artists an opportunity to gauge their development and established artists the opportunity to explore new ideas or techniques.

 
  An Introduction to Felting with Rosie Dittmann
June 19, 2008
Location: Whitefish Bay Farm Gallery
Time: 2:00 pm

Local fiber artist Rosie Dittmann will share her artistry with wool during a free public demonstration at the Whitefish Bay Farm Gallery in rural Sturgeon Bay. The felting demonstration will offer the public a rare chance to see this accomplished artist at work as well as a glimpse into the process and creation of one-of-a-kind articles featuring wool from the farm's flock of white and naturally colored Corriedale sheep.

  Mosaic Madness: Decorative Art for Indoors and Outdoors

Location: Francis Hardy Gallery on Anderson Dock
Time: 2:00 pm

Learn to master the exquisite technique of mosaic - the art of decoration using small pieces of colored glass, stone or other materials - under the creative guidance of master gardener and stained glass artist extraordinaire Karin Overbeck. She will demonstrate the techniques used in the creation of interior and exterior mosaics and will assist participants in developing the necessary skills to create their own gorgeous mosaics - planters, birdbaths, benches and wall hangings. Discover the art of mosaic-making, the sky's the limit!
 
  Door County Plein Air Festival
July 20 - August 2, 2008
The Door County Plein Air Festival celebrates the tradition of outdoor painting with some of the finest painters from Door County and the country. Over 35 artists will put brush to canvas, capturing the summer light over the waters and fields of Door County. Painting from life and the landscape has long been a Door County tradition, and one that has endured evolving styles. Door County Festival of the Arts
August 9 & 10, 2008
Location: downtown Sister Bay and Ephraim

The Francis Hardy Center for the Arts' Door County Festival of the Arts will take place on Saturday and
Sunday, August 9 & 10. Located along the waters of Sister Bay and Ephraim in the heart of the Door
Peninsula the pristine shorelines and bluffs provide a breathtaking backdrop for the event. The
festival features Door County's finest artists demonstrating their skills, theatrical, literary and live
musical performances, cultural tours, culinary delights and hands-on activities for the young and the
young at heart.

  Looking at Children's Art with Joan Thrower Timm

This illustrated presentation is designed to unlock the joys and mysteries of your children and grandchildren's art and to introduce you to the developmental stages of art that all children go through, regardless of cultural background. Collector's Choice

July 18 - September 1, 2008
Stop in and delight your senses with the colorful display of artwork in the 2008 Collection Invitational Exhibition! Visitors to the exhibit will have the opportunity to purchase works of art for their home or personal collections. Invitees are asked to submit two works of art, one for display and one a donation in which to support the nonprofit FHCA. The donated works are prominently displayed and featured in a silent auction that will run throughout the duration of the exhibit. This annual exhibit is regarded as one of Door County's premier exhibitions for professional artists. All proceeds generated from the event benefit FHCA educational programming.

Glass Blowing Demonstrations

Popelka Trenchard Glass

Location: 64 S. 2nd Avenue, Sturgeon Bay
Popelka Trenchard Glass is not normally open to sit down demonstrations. However, the artists are working often and their process can be viewed from beyond the hot shop during normal hours of operation. Popelka Trenchard Glass does periodically have an open studio and do allow large groups for pre-arranged presentations for a fee.
